FlexDex Surgical has today announced the appointment of Robert L. Gershon to its Board of Directors. Mr. Gershon has more than 30 years of experience in the healthcare and medical technology industry and currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Convergent Dental, Inc.
“We are pleased to welcome Rob to the FlexDex Board of Directors,” said Dr. James Geiger, Co- Founder and CEO of FlexDex. “Rob brings a wealth of experience developing and executing successful growth strategies for leading medical technology companies. His deep experience in the MIS space will be key as we prepare for the launch of our next generation devices and continue driving towards the company’s ultimate goal: to bring the benefits of MIS to more patients around the world.”
Prior to Mr. Gershon’s current role at Convergent Dental, Inc., he served as Chief Executive Officer of Mauna Kea Technologies, where he refocused the company and drove a new, successful commercialization strategy. He also served as Chief Executive Officer at Bovie Medical, where he successfully repositioned of the company’s portfolio and operations that resulted in dramatic growth. Earlier in his career Mr. Gershon held senior leadership positions with Henry Schein and Covidien (now Medtronic).
This announcement follows the unveiling of the AXIUSTM Needle Driver at the American College of Surgeons Clinical Congress in October 2022, prior to FDA registration, that is expected early 2023. Building on the success of the company’s first-generation technology, the AXIUSTM Needle Driver utilizes a streamlined architecture and advanced mechanical engineering to enable complex suturing, one of the most challenging tasks in minimally invasive surgery. The Needle Driver is the first of a full suite of AXIUSTM Advanced Laparoscopy devices that are being developed at FlexDex.
“I am delighted to join FlexDex at such an exciting phase in their development,” said Mr. Gershon. “The AXIUSTM devices provide a leap forward for laparoscopy. Currently, surgeons can achieve enhanced dexterity and precision for MIS only through a robotic platform. AXIUSTM will allow the surgeons access to similar advancements for their non-robotic procedures, providing an increased level of dexterity, regardless of the surgical approach. I look forward to supporting FlexDex as we prepare for commercialization of the AXIUSTM suite.”
