CMR Surgical and The Wellington as part of HCA Healthcare UK have announced that it has installed the Versius Surgical Robotic System at The Wellington Hospital in London, in a UK private sector first. At The Wellington, Versius will be used as part of a multispecialty robotic surgery programme including colorectal surgery, thoracic surgery and gynaecology enabling more patients to benefit from robotic-assisted minimal access surgery.
The Wellington Hospital is one of the largest private hospitals in the UK, and offers a range of multi-specialty, complex and acute care services as part of HCA Healthcare UK – a leading private provider offering a network of care across hospitals, outpatient centres and specialist clinics. HCA UK has a demonstrated record of investing in innovation, including an established surgical robotic centre where Versius is being introduced to offer patients more robotic assisted surgery.
Versius is the only small and modular surgical robotic system on the market which makes it easy to adopt for surgeons and hospitals. By being small and modular, it can fit into virtually any operating room without the need to alter existing infrastructure. The modularity of Versius gives surgeons ease and flexibility to put the ports where surgeons want, and more importantly, are used to putting them, therefore making the system ideal to perform a versatile range of cases and integrate into existing workflows. At The Wellington, Versius is initially being used to perform a range of complex colorectal procedures including anterior resections and hemicolectomies, with the multispecialty programme then expanding into thoracic surgery and gynaecology, adding to the established robotics offering at The Wellington Hospital.
Supratim Bose, Chief Executive Officer, CMR Surgical commented: “Globally, the HCA Healthcare group represents a gold standard in the adoption of innovation to deliver the best care for patients so we are delighted that HCA UK will be offering robotic assisted surgery using Versius. After successfully installing Versius across the NHS, it is great to see that the versatility of Versius is demonstrating value for the private sector too. CMR are excited to be embarking on this partnership with such a trusted global healthcare provider, and I look forward to watching the partnership expand.”
