During eye surgery, holding endoscopes by hand reduces the dexterity of the surgeon. To address this, a team of researchers from the Institute of Innovation Research and School of Engineering at Tokyo Institute of Technology, and Department of Ophthalmology, Kyushu University Hospital has proposed a robotic endoscope holder called “Eye Explorer” to hold the endoscope during eye surgery and free the surgeon’s hand.
This paper describes the robotic system being proposed and presents positive results for the Eye Explorer.
