Torbay and South Devon NHS Hospital Announces Arrival of Versius
CMR Surgical has announced that Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Hospital will be using Versius in their colorectal and upper GI surgical team.
During the next six months our surgical team at Torbay Hospital will be using the Versius Plus robotic system to treat a range of conditions such as colorectal cancer, gallbladder removal and liver disease, as part of a new working collaboration with CMR Surgical.
Surgeons will operate the robotic system using console controllers similar to those used by gamers to control the robot’s arms, and a 3D screen which shows the area being operated on enables surgeons to have greater precision during the procedure. Patients whose surgery is performed by a robotic system generally have a quicker recovery time.
At a celebration event last Thursday, where representatives from CMR Surgical introduced the first Versius Plus at Torbay Hospital, Consultant Adam Kimble said: “This is a big day for us and we’re now able to offer the benefits of robotic-assisted surgery to people in Torbay and South Devon. It will mean shorter hospital stays, reduced post-operative pain and a quicker return to normal activities.
“It’s a really exciting opportunity and is in-line with the NHS 10 Year Plan to show how we’re using cutting-edge technology to deliver care to people in Torbay and South Devon.”
