CMEF 2025: Insights into Innovation and the Future of China’s Medical Industry
This year’s China International Medical Equipment Fair (CMEF) was a success. Covering 320,000 square meters, it featured 22 thematic zones with nearly 5,000 companies from over 30 countries and regions, attracting 200,000 attendees. The theme “Innovative Technology, Leading the Future” showcased advanced medical technologies, emphasizing China’s innovation in high-end equipment and a cohesive industry ecosystem.
On this occasion, you experienced Stäubli’s excellence in medical robotics and the fast packaging of medical devices:
- Neurosurgery: The TX2-60L optimizes surgical planning, reduces adjustment time, and accelerates surgery time.

- Orthopedic Surgery: The TX2-60L delivers precise, stable support, improving success rates.

- Rapid Packaging: TS2 60 and TX2 60 excel in efficient, precise, and flexible large-scale packaging.

Advances in Medical Robotics
The integration of AI and robotics at CMEF highlighted advancements in intelligence and precision. Zones like the “Medical Robotics Pavilion” featured breakthroughs such as an orthopedic surgical robot using AI deep-learning [1] and the “Smart Woodpecker” micro spinal surgical robot [2]. These innovations showcase the future of “AI + Robotics,” promising expanded applications and revolutionized patient care.
Trends in Medical Devices
Medical device exhibits showcased trends including iterative upgrades in high-end equipment, consumables innovation, and adoption of smart, precision technologies. The highlights included advanced scanners and MRIs, cost-effective consumables, smart manufacturing chips, pressure sensors, and intelligent emergency response solutions for patient transportation [3].
China’s Medical Economy and Trends
China’s medical economy has maintained steady growth, driven by an aging population, rising public health awareness, increased government investment, improved insurance policies, and continuous technological innovation. Strong policy support for medical robotics and high-end medical devices has injected vitality and opportunities into the sector. The medical robotics market is projected to reach ¥10.88 billion (USD ~1.5 billion) by 2025, showcasing resilience despite challenges like reduced capital financing and declining average prices. Laparoscopic robots currently dominate the segment (74.9%), followed by orthopedic (10%) and percutaneous puncture robots (4.9%). Technological innovation, policy incentives, and growing demand provide a promising outlook [4].

Chinese Robotic Assisted Surgery Landscape
The competitive landscape of Chinese Robotic Assisted Surgery (RAS) continues to expand, targeting both international and domestic markets.
– 61 unique Chinese companies provide 76 RAS platforms, with regulatory approval or over $5M in funding.
- 11 companies are developing multiple RAS platforms across subcategories (e.g., Laparoscopy, Endoluminal, Hard tissue).
- 49 RAS platforms have regulatory approval while 20 have<$5M in funding. [5]
Overall, China’s medical device market remains dynamic, with ongoing innovation and industrial upgrades. Domestic companies have made significant progress in high-end equipment and consumables through R&D investment and global market expansion, enhancing both technological sophistication and international competitiveness. China’s medical economy is advancing toward greater intelligence, precision, and efficiency.
