HCA Florida Northwest Hospital announces it has completed its first elective benign hysterectomy procedure.

The robotic-assisted transvaginal hysterectomy was performed by HCA Florida Healthcare obstetrics & gynecology specialists, Dr. Daniel Gomez and Dr. Jose Luis Terrazas.

Northwest Hospital is the first hospital in Broward county to have the Anovo Surgical System. Anovo is the first and only trans vaginal robot indicated for benign gynecological procedures, including hysterectomy and ovarian cyst removal.

The surgical robot mimics a human arm, with shoulder, elbow and wrist joints designed to provide a surgeons’ precise movements and human-like dexterity. “Less invasive surgery leads to better postoperative outcomes for the patients in our community,” said HCA Florida Healthcare obstetrics & gynecology specialist, Dr. Daniel Gomez. “It reduces visible scars, provides a shorter recovery and a reduction in infection when compared with other approaches.”

“We have one of only eight of these robots in the country,” said HCA Florida Healthcare obstetrics & gynecology specialist, Dr. Jose Luis Terrazas. “If someone requires surgery for conditions such as heavy menstrual bleeding or fibroids, they should contact our team to discuss a minimally invasive approach to surgery.”

“We are proud to be the first hospital in Broward county to offer our patients the latest innovation in robotic gynecologic surgery,” said HCA Florida Northwest Hospital CEO Kenneth Jones. “We are continuously expanding the latest technology, enabling us to always provide leading-edge services to the community we serve.”
